They offer mainly tapas served either in the non-smoking sit down restaurant part of the establishment or in the tapas bar area where you can sit on stools or stand/hang at the side bar. The Mediterranean side of their cuisine reflects in the fact that they use a lot of Italian and French ingredients, apart of course from Spanish.

Tintofino Ultramarino boasts a wine collection of over 100 different wines that can be consumed by the bottle mostly, but they also offer a great selection by the glass.

When we visited we were lucky to get the last available table outside and heard that others had to wait for at least an hour; reservations therefore are highly recommended if you plan to go there!

Bodeguilla del Gato serves tapas that are influenced by Basque cuisine and they have many nice ones to choose from.

The interior is decorated with flamenco and bullfighting things and they offer a nice selection of Spanish wines.

The terrace of El Rall is quite popular in spring and summer, but bookings are preferred as the restaurant itself is quite small.

Silvestre Café is a modern cafeteria in a quiet street behind the Mercado Central. It is divided over 2.5 floors and has a strict non-smoking policy. A good place to meet for a business meeting as they also have wifi installed.

Their coffee and tea infusions are also available for sale.

The restaurant targets a cosmopolitan and urbane audience with purchasing power between 18 and 40. The cuisine of La Lola Restaurante is best described as new Spanish; made with high quality products, based on traditional food adapted to the current era.

They offer a menu del dia for EUR 12 and from Monday to Thursday a menu degustación for EUR 45. A la carte naturally is available too.

On Thursdays and Fridays you can enjoy live flamenco performances at La Lola Restaurante and on Saturdays your dinner is livened up with a DJ performance.

Their specialty is all kinds of deep fried tapas – we had the gambas – that come in great variety. Of course they also offer other tapas such as sardines garnished with olives and oil, mussels, croqettes, basically all kinds of tapas you can imagine.

And if that is not enough, you can also come for a selection of bocadillos at Boatella tapas.

They offer the whole range of bocadillos, tostaditas, sandwiches and even a menu del dia at EUR 10.

Rivendel is also an internet bar, so if you’re in the neighbourhood, for example to visit the library which was built in the early 1400′s, want to have a bite and need an internet connection, Rivendel is the right place.

In the kitchen of Tapa2 Gastronomik Mediterranean and Asian styles are fused and their most important goal is to offer quality cuisine at affordable prices.

The menu is divided into vegetarian, fish/seafood and meat tapas and guests are expected to share their food as well as tables with other guests. The multi-lingual staff is very friendly and ready to help you make your choice of tapas.

Many of the tapas are exclusive creations you would not think of and are well-balanced in taste and texture. Of all the fantastic tapas on the menu we would like to recommend the spinach with roquefort tapa and the dessert banana-strawberry-split.

Tapa2 Gastronomik also offers a selection of excellent wines from Valencia and other areas of Spain. The restaurant seats around 25 people and is tucked right in between the Central Market Mercado Central and Plaza del Tossal.

It is a tiny place with seating at the bar and for the rest standing place only, but don’t let that keep you from trying one of the best tapas places in Valencia.

Tasca Angel offers a menu of 20 tapas and 4 montaditos all very reasonably priced. Their specialty is ‘sardinas a la plancha’, grilled fillets of sardines, served with olive oil, garlic and parsley.

They offer creative food in a jazzy atmosphere and throughout the week they have a menu del dia of EUR 40.

The service is great and multilingual and when the weather warms up you can also enjoy sitting on their terrace.

To place your order, you’ll have to take a form, fill in your name and choose your montaditos. You will see a column with ‘N’ (normal = white) and ‘I’ (integral = dark), the choice of your bread. Once you have finished selecting, you bring the form to the bar and you pay. Then you only have to wait for your name being called out to pick up your order that comes with free chips.

Cerveceria 100 Montaditos is part of a chain of restaurants throughout Spain. And also on other days than Wednesdays they offer great value for money.

Their specialties are very similar to other horchaterías in town: of course horchata (the drink made of tigernuts), chocolate, churros, tostaditas, bocadillos, home made ice cream, etc.

A sign on their door claims that Horchatería Santa Catalina already exists for over two centuries.

The restaurant is quite near the Central Mercado and the only restaurant in that part of the street, so it’s easy to find.

From Monday to Friday Bacco d.o.c. serves a menu del dia for EUR 10 which includes a drink, bread, appetizer, main course and a dessert or coffee or tea. You can choose from 3 different appetizers, main courses and desserts and the menu changes daily. Of course they also have a la carte available with the whole range of pizzas and pastas.

One of their specialties is horchata (hence the name). Horchata is a typical Valencian drink made from tigernuts, water and sugar. It tastes a bit fruity and it’s quite refreshing.

Horchatería El Siglo was founded in 1836 and is with that the oldest in Valencia, passed on generation on generation. Although the people working there cannot speak English, you can say that they have enough experience with non-Spanish-speaking visitors and they will make you feel welcome and right at home.

If you are in the neighbourhood, for example while waiting for the tourist bus that has a stop around the corner, Horchatería El Siglo is definitely worth a visit; try out the horchata or the chocolate con churros.

First of all the restaurant has a broad cuisine from Cuban dishes to fusion Caribbean to the Spanish paella and tapas.

Babalú is located just next to the Plaza Redonda that is undergoing renovations at the time of writing. It’s in a side street of one of the streets leading off the Plaza and they have a good visible sign at the entrance to the street, that is how we found it too.

They offer a couple of Cuban and Caribbean specialties such as picadillos (Cuban ground beef dishes) and tostones (Caribbean fried banana) and they also do typical Spanish tapas and Valencian food such as paella.

Their menu of the day for EUR 9 is available both for lunch and dinner from Mon-Thu, on other days just for lunch. It includes an appetizer, a main course, a dessert or coffee or tea and a drink.

Then they have an extensive cocktail list with mojitos, daiquiris, caiprinhas, margaritas among others.

In Paris Babalú also has a restaurant so Valencia is their second base.
